Here’s our guide to getting started with Flex Boots successfully, and how to make the most of them with correct use and care.
Succeed with Flex Boots
Congratulations – you’ve chosen Flex Boots to support your horse’s comfort and wellbeing. Their soft, flexible design and patented sole help the hoof move and function naturally, even in challenging conditions.
When you receive your Flex Boots, it’s important to fit them correctly on your horse’s hooves. Well-fitted Flex Boots stay on securely, and will not rub your horse’s legs. Here’s our guide to getting started with Flex Boots successfully, and how to make the most of them with correct use and care.
Try on new boots
If you’re not entirely sure that the new boots fit correctly, and you might want to return them, it’s important that you keep the boots completely clean when trying them on. This video shows how to try Flex Boots on without getting them dirty.
Correct use
1. Trim
Make sure that your horse’s hooves are trimmed according to its individual anatomy and maintained in their best possible condition with frequent, regular trims. A light weekly maintenance trim by the owner is one of the most effective ways to support optimal hoof health.
Regular hoof care not only promotes healthier hooves but also significantly improves the fit and extends the lifespan of the boots.
2. Body
Pay attention to your horse’s topline and overall physical condition. Are they experiencing any discomfort that may affect the way they use their legs? Issues higher up in the body can influence hoof function, so it’s important to address any physical concerns before riding.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that movement patterns can change quite suddenly. Even if your horse has previously worn hooves or boots evenly, this can shift due to factors such as a slip in the field, changes in saddle fit, or other physical adjustments. If you notice new or uneven wear, it does not necessarily indicate a product issue, but may reflect a change in how the horse is moving and loading its body.
3. Correct fit
Familiarise yourself with our fitting instructions. Flex Boots can be adjusted in several ways, so they can fit various hoof shapes that are trimmed by the horse’s anatomy.
4. Boot maintenance
The boot material benefits from regular use. Use water and a brush to clean, and hang to dry and store in a well-ventilated place, like hung up on a wall. Never store Flex Boots in a bag, or in any kind of closed box or container. If you ride in the sea, always rinse the boots thoroughly with tap water after they’ve been exposed to seawater.
Please also check the condition of the boots regularly to ensure they remain safe to use.

Horses and associated activities are inherently dangerous and serious injury or harm may occur to the horse, humans or property. By using Flex Boots you agree to accept the risks and their consequences. At times, the boots may come off partially or completely, and the horse may be frightened or stumble. It is the handler’s responsibility to adequately desensitise the horse to such situations before using Flex Boots.
We recommend checking Flex Boots regularly before and after use to ensure they remain in good condition and safe to use. If you notice any signs of damage, such as cuts, cracks, or excessive wear, the boots should no longer be used.
